I have a response from Giganet on their future FTTP offering which will go
live later this year.

They offer a "symmetrical" service with equal up/down guaranteed speeds
that are half that of the package, i.e. 300 Mb/s package guarantees 150
Mb/s each way, details here:

https://www.giganet.uk/faq/do-you-have-a-speed-guarantee/

I though fibre gave you the full package speed?

They don't offer any form of 'phone service so it would be expensive if
you wanted a landline 'phone and FTTP.

Anybody here experienced that? If so what do you do?

I am on FTTH/FTTP and vodafone gave me an ONT (Optical Network
Terminator) and a Router.

I had a choice of 100/100, 500/500 and 900/900 service.

The router has a POTS socket on the back and so I connected taht house
phones.

Surprised at the low speed packages you are being offered... Are you
being offered a FTTC product (fibre to the cabinet) instead of FTTP/
FTTH (Fibre to the Home, Fibre to the premises) product?

I've just looked at giganet's website for my home address and I got the
following options:

P.P.S. Giganet don't do VOIP at the moment and they recommend Vonage or
Andrews and Arnold:

(the latter are actually very good for VOIP)

Price starts to build up, I wonder if Plusnet might offer something over
the Giganet backbone, will have to see!

We've just moved from BT at about 70 Mbps to Community Fibre at 1,000 Mbps.
Combined with a new state-of-the-art mobile phone the difference is
astonishing. Downloads are all instant. We have a phone service (number duly
ported) as well. Irritatingly, I bought a VOIP-capable phone a couple of years
ago (supposedly "future proofing"), but I don't think anyone at CF "support"
knows who knows (someone must know) how to connect it up, so I have to use the
Grandstream phone adapter they supplied. It all works perfectly, but CF seem a
chaotic organisation so I do worry what would happen if I got a fault. Cheap
as chips, though - half the price of the BT service.

Worth mentioning the one "VOIP" benefit - with the installed CF app, a call to
my landline also rings (and can be taken) on my mobile.

Then simply think of it as a 150Mbps package, rather than 300Mbps, and
you'll get the full speed :-)

Aah, good thinking Batman :-)

Makes it expensive...

It's their 'guaranteed minimum speed', ie the speed below which you get your
money back. Ofcom made every ISP do this because of the way DSL ISPs were
advertising 'up to 80Mbps' when the actual speed was nowhere near.

Basically you should get 300, but you don't have a right to demand
compensation/remediation unless it's below 150. The local loop should run
reliably at 300 if that's the link speed (unlike FTTC where it could change
depending how the wind blows), but congestion in their network/internet
pipe/etc could cause speed drops at peak times.

A 50% drop is common for FTTC but sounds a bit lazy for FTTP. Although
maybe there is potential for their upstream to be congested in the worst
case.
