There is a growing view that the tax system is in need of an
overhaul/refurishment as there is a growing perception that the amount paid
in tax is not fair in all groups.

Good to see that Grant Roberston's view is that a change is needed and it
needs to ne cross-party support. Chris Hipkins is also advocading for a
debate and reform, along with some discussion documents.

For any meaningful reform there needs to be cross-party support, which is
another way of saying Taking the people with you.

It is my hope that the debate does not turn into a partisan scrap with the
result is just a few tweaks at the edges.

All changes to our taxation rates are always political. It is the
debate on proposed changes by the Government of the day, and the
alternative viewpoints expressed by the Opposition of the day, that
provide the basis for informed choice by voters.

It is changes implemented by the Government of the day that were never
signaled prior to the previous election that often result in
ill-considered 'tweaks'. Such is the reason why 3-year terms should
remain.
